Crash is about loss, and the mistakes we might do to cope with said loss: bad decisions, self-destructive behaviour, and suicidal thoughts.
I wrote the lyrics after a major break-up almost three years ago, while being on a trip that I impulsively decided to tag along on. Specifically when writing the line "crash and burn", I remember being on a bus and thinking it wouldn't be so bad if we were to have an accident right now.
Since then, things have changed, and nowadays the song reminds me of the fun I had writing the instrumental parts with the rest of the band, as well as the first time performing it live in the middle of a pandemic - it was a strange and unique gig, one we practised for a lot, spending days after days together in our rehearsal room to prepare a performance our fans and the audience wouldn't forget.
lyrics
hit the brakes
sixty to zero in a moment
crash and burn
he was fine and now he's roaming
things have changed
it was never quite the same
don't know what happened, what became
of the person that you knew
after all that he's been through
do you think that we'll get by
you say we'll make it, but it's a lie, it's a lie
and you're a liar
but that's okay
I was the same
I've stared at ceilings that I shouldn't
you might think I'm misunderstood
but it's just an excuse, to be bad but act good
familiar beds but they aren't yours
wake up next to guilt and remorse
but if you knew, if you knew what I've done
if they had just talked it out
a bit more candour and less doubt
but instead they're left confused
broken, battered and abused
all those words you falsify
you say we'll make it, but it's a lie, it's a lie
and you're a liar
but that's okay
I was the same
I've stared at ceilings that I shouldn't
you might think I'm misunderstood
but it's just an excuse, to be bad but act good
familiar beds but they aren't yours
wake up next to guilt and remorse
but if you knew, if you knew what I've done
and you're a liar
and you're a liar
and you're a liar
and you're a liar
I've stared at ceilings that I shouldn't
you might think I'm misunderstood
but it's just an excuse, to be bad but act good
familiar beds but they aren't yours
wake up next to guilt and remorse
but if you knew, if you knew what I've done
